Quantic EMC partners with Electro Magnetic Applications (EMA) to offer a solution to modeling complex wire harnesses |
|
Winnipeg, Canada, Aug 16, 2000 – Quantic EMC Inc. announced today a joint venture with Electro Magnetic Applications (EMA) Inc. to market MHARNESS, a software package for simulating electromagnetic effects on complex wiring harnesses. MHARNESS, developed by EMA, employs a FDTD method to simulate multiconductor transmission line equations. Frequency-domain results are also produced. It can model complex wire harnesses consisting of multiple conductors, multiple branches, and multiple shielding layers. With MHARNESS the effectiveness of various shield designs, connectors, and bonding impedances may be evaluated. It is also used to determine core wire voltages/currents for lightning currents and incident plane waves, HIRF, signaling and crosstalk applications. It also predicts the electromagnetic fields radiated from a harness. It interfaces with Mentor Graphics Logicable CAD software for wiring tables and can be easily changed for other wiring list formats. MHARNESS runs on PC platforms under Windows/NT, and under UNIX on Sun, HP, IBM, and SGI. “MHARNESS is truly a considerable addition to Quantic’s existing product line,” stated Dr. Al Wexler, Quantic President. “This partnership supports Quantic’s mission to provide customers with a full range of leading-edge signal integrity and electromagnetic simulation software. We now have the capability to simulate emissions from complex wiring harnesses as well as from printed circuit boards.” Dr. Rod Perala, CEO of Electro Magnetic Applications, observed that, “We have a history – like Quantic – of addressing fundamental electromagnetic fields issues in the development of our analysis tools. Our sphere of expertise is complementary to theirs and so this partnership is a very natural one and very beneficial for engineers involved in high speed electronics.”
About Electro Magnetic Applications, Inc.
EMA has an international reputation for its excellence in electromagnetic research and
development by combining theoretical understanding and common sense for practical problems. The approach
of the company is to develop EM models of systems and to validate them by experiment. Examples
and areas of interest are: electromagnetic compatibility; lightning physics and effects; radar
cross section analysis; system hardening; ultra wideband radar; high intensity radiated
fields (HIRF); single and multi-conductor cable responses; and EMC analysis of printed
circuit boards. Information regarding EMA can be found on the World Wide Web
