PCB Partial Ground Plane Simulation Models for Omega PLUS |

Winnipeg, Canada, May 15, 2000 – Quantic EMC Inc. announced today the release of the Ground Plane Modeller, a module in Omega PLUS. Omega PLUS, a cross-platform circuit board simulation tool, runs on Windows (NT,95,98) and on UNIX (HP, Sun) workstations. This tool – a PCB signal integrity and emissions screening tool – screens PCB layouts for nets with excessive crosstalk, ringing, time delays, overshoot, undershoot, settling time and noise margin violations. It simulates the electromagnetic emissions immediately above or below a PCB allowing the identification of problem nets that cause electromagnetic radiation. Omega PLUS is now augmented by the Ground Plane Modeller module. With this module, Omega PLUS simulates two-sided boards and multilayer boards with partial power and ground planes. Figure 1 shows a board with an open region. This opening in the ground plane allows electromagnetic emissions, from the layer below, to pass through. In Figure 2 the board has split planes. Also, tracks crossing power and ground plane discontinuities experience sudden changes in track impedances. According to Mike Ventham, Vice President Engineering, “Omega PLUS builds on the technological leadership of Quantic acquired in 17 years of simulation software development. This latest advancement – accomplished in partnership with SimLab Software GmbH, of Munich – is unique to the Electronic Design Automation industry. With it, accurate simulation of boards with discontinuous grounds and no grounds can now be achieved. This is a major advance to the electronics manufacturing industry - especially for consumer products development – in order to accomplish reliable high-speed designs under these circumstances.”
Omega PLUS’s Ground Plane Modeller is priced at $5,000.
